Game progress

The Game Grumps begin playing the first level of the game and familiarize themselves with the controls and mechanics.

Discussion

As soon as they start the game, the Grumps make fun of the sound effects on the main menu, calling Goof Troop "the boopin-est game". Once they've calmed down about it, Jon says they are playing this game because the fans wanted to see more co-op games. As a result, Arin suggested Goof Troop, comparing it to the Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. Meanwhile, the first cutscene plays, and Jon makes fun of the plot of the game, in which Pete and PJ are kidnapped by pirates. Arin claims that Jon wouldn't save him if he himself was kidnapped, referencing episode 6 of Kirby Super Star, when he was kidnapped by the TAC enemy, and Jon wouldn't bail him out.

On the character select screen, Jon immediately selects single player mode by accident, meaning he has to reset the game. After a brief argument over who gets which character, Jon and Arin start playing as Max and Goofy respectively.

The first thing both of them do is try the controls. They discover the button to pick up items, which makes it look like the characters raise their arms in frustration. On the second screen, Arin picks up the grappling hook, which has a sort of suggestive animation when used. Both of these are running gags throughout this and later episodes.

Jon asks if Capcom developed the game, and points out the amazing sound effects. He also wonders if King's Quest was released on SNES, as he'd like to play it.

Most of the rest of the episode has the Grumps briefly joke about loose tangents or talk about the game mechanics.

Trivia

  • On YouTube, the episode is called "Goof Troop - Goof Troop: Bloopy Shit". This might be a mistake.
  • This is currently the only episode to use profanity in its title (the Mega Man 7 episode Mind F*ck Truck comes close, though).

Suggested Future Games

  • King's Quest (suggested by Jon, though he wants to play the nonexistent SNES version).
