  • This game is the second Sonic game played with Arin and Danny after Shadow the Hedgehog and the third Sonic game overall on Game Grumps with Sonic '06 with Arin and Jon.
  • Currently, this game is one of the few games that have at least 40 episodes on Game Grumps.
  • The playthrough was initially hated due to Arin's attitude (a frequent detractor of Sonic games) and general incompetence at the game until the episode Hungry For Nuts, which was the turning point in the community's opinion of the series. (Possibly because of all the unnecessary hating Arin received on his DYKG episode: 5 No More Heros Trivia)  Around this time, viewers identified that the game itself was exhibiting extremely buggy mechanics as well as frustrating puzzles, and Arin was doing a blind run just after it had been released, with no walkthroughs written at the time.
  • Due to the discovery of an exploitable game-breaking glitch where Knuckles can be paused and unpaused during the arc of his cartwheeling jump to keep going up for unlimited jumping height distance, Arin relentlessly abuses the glitch and skips a large section of the game by hopping over a closed gate before collecting the key to unlock it, as well as circumvents a lot of game difficulty.
  • A major complaint was how Arin had forgotten Amy could triple jump because he was abusing the Knuckles jump glitch so much, having used her ability a few times before finding out about the glitch and then deciding that he would use Knuckles instead. It wasn't until the episode Janeane Garofalo's Expedition that he was put in a situation that forced him to remember Amy's triple jump to progress because the game had separated Knuckles and Tails from the team of characters. It even required the help of a bystander in a Starbucks to impart this knowledge of the triple jump to Danny by happenstance, who then told it to Arin.
